Proper maintenance is essential for keeping any engine running smoothly, and two-stroke engines are no exception. Here are some tips for getting the maximum life from your two-stroke engine:

  1. Use High-Quality Two-Stroke Engine Oil: Since two-stroke engines don’t have oil reservoirs, they require oil to be mixed with the fuel to lubricate and cool the engine. Use ECHO’s RED ARMOR® two-stroke engine oil, and mix it with fresh fuel at the proper manufacturer-recommended mixture. Or use ECHO’s pre-mixed RED ARMOR® Fuel to ensure maximum performance and protection for your two-stroke engines.
  2. Use Fresh Fuel: Use fresh fuel with the recommended octane rating, and do not use fuel that has been sitting for an extended period of time.
  3. Inspect the Air Filter Regularly: Inspect and clean or replace the air filter regularly to ensure proper airflow to the engine. A clogged air filter blocks the airflow into the engine and causes the motor to run rich and burn excess fuel, which can damage the sparkplug and lead to carbon buildup inside the cylinder or the muffler.
  4. Inspect the Fuel Filter Regularly: Inspect the fuel filter regularly and replace it if it’s dirty to ensure adequate fuel flow to the engine. A dirty or clogged fuel filter will starve the engine of fuel and cause it to run lean, which in turn will cause the engine to run hotter. Since two-cycle engines depend on the fuel mixture for lubrication, running them lean in fuel is especially dangerous.
  5. Inspect the Sparkplug Regularly: The sparkplug should be checked periodically and replaced if it is dirty, worn, or damaged.
  6. Store the Unit Properly: If you are storing the unit for an extended period of time, drain the fuel from the tank and carburetor, and add a fuel stabilizer to the remaining fuel in the tank.
